it could lead. latest news thruxton – top – ten’s august 6, 2018 as the heat wave continues to dominate the news, the on-track temperatures sored for gr motosport at the 7th round of the british superbike championships. in a fantastic weekend of racing at thruxton, the stauff connect academy welcomed former motogp star claudio ‘shorts’ corti onto the team’s kawasaki zx10rr whilst saying goodbye to liam delves who has failed to meet his on and off-track commitments. mason law who continues to grow within the team wd-40 structure and hitting our targets, exceeded expectations with 2 fantastic top tens in his rookie year. british superbike continues to draw global media attention as the most competitive national motorcycle races series in world even at times out shinning some of the world championships events. the high-speed nature of the hampshire circuit continues to deliver close exciting action in every class with superbike its self-thrilling the huge crowd. superbike rookie mason law started his weekend well in first practice and carried this through to both races, the only glitch coming in q2 where he could only manage 18th on the grid for the first race. geoff crust and danny wright put a great race strategy together for the essex youngster who made the most of his starting prowess to get into the fight for top ten placings in the first 20 lap race. mason did an incredible job using the strategy to push forward to a fantastic 8th place and a 10th fastest lap giving him self a better chance for race 2. mason again made the start and was immediately in the hunt running amongst the high flyers but unfortunately with 2 laps to go his tyres were finished and sadly dropping him back to 10th at the flag. speaking afterwards mason said: “that was a very good round for myself and the team, and all in all i’m happy with the progress we made throughout the weekend. thruxton is a really abrasive circuit and kills tyres, so that’s what we worked to conquer from the off and i had a good feeling from the opening free practice session.” having qualified eighteenth, which was disappointing for mason, he said: “qualifying is something we really need to work on, but i didn’t let it get my head down, and i got a good start in race one. i gained positions off the line and kept making progress and finished eighth.” with his first bsb top ten in the bag on the team wd-40 kawasaki zx-10rr, it was very much a goal to repeat that feat in race two. “we ran the softer ‘zero’ tyre this weekend and i knew that would be a strength of ours when it came to race day,” said mason. “i was also confident and knew it would provide us with the pace to grab a better grid position for race two. it gave me confidence in my ability to go on and produce a lap time that would allow us to move up the grid. “we made a change from race one for race two and having started the second outing in tenth place, i got a very good launch off the line. i had a really hard fight in a group that included some established bsb riders like laverty and bridewell and i really enjoyed it. to also to have the lead group visible in front of us was again very pleasing for me and a great feeling.” speaking of the race in detail, he added: “it was again all about nursing the tyre to the finish and in the closing stages i had a big moment and tucked the front through turn 3: the handlebars completely locked out. i thought, ‘here we go, we are going to exit stage left!’ but thankfully it gripped and i was careful enough afterwards, to know that i’d used the best of the front tyre. i had nothing left grip wise on the rear also at that stage, to really push in the closing stages. but to finish tenth, i was really, really happy with that.” in closing he added: “the team did a great job all weekend and we worked through a process that allowed us to grind away and post these strong results, so full credit to team wd-40. it was great to have our partners 1st waste management along this weekend, to enjoy the results with and we can really look forward to cadwell park now. here’s to a positive second half of the season.” class rookie mason leads the fight for 8th! claudio corti or shorts as he is known had a baptism of fire in his first british superbike championship event. the como italy resident, riding a kawasaki zx10rr for the very first time at a track he has never seen before first practice was always going to be a huge ask for any rider but add to that the lunacy of another rider smashing into the back of him and taking him out at over 150 miles an hour on the 2nd lap of qualifying could have been a step too far – but not for shorts. having to start towards the very rear of the grid and still not too familiar with the track claudio built his lap times and fought through into the points. we are pleased to say that claudio, who despite the issues really enjoyed being part of the team and the british championships will remain with the stauff quick connect academy for the remained of the season. claudio corti said “i have heard a lot about the british championships and really wanted to give it a try. even after everything i was told before i was really surprised at how big the series is and how many fast riders there are but mostly just how many people came to watch – this is incredible!!! i have really enjoyed working with the team they are very professional and like family which is a great reason for me and brent to agree to continue for the rest of the season – i now have to rush home to get my motocross bike to practice as geoff told me about cadwell mountain and i think this is like mx table top no?? serious i am looking forward to the next tracks but i do not know cadwell or oulton and my friends in the
